If you’ve got a child, then there’s a point that comes early on where they’ve out grown their cot or crib and they need a real bed to sleep in. Although it isn’t the most difficult decision to make for the welfare of your child, there are various options available to you as parents for your child’s needs. As our families are quite different, so are the beds each family may need, and there are many different options for you, as a parent, to choose for your kid.

One type of bed that’s used commonly in families are bunk beds, and it’s quite simple to figure out whether one’s a good idea for your family, you simply need to take a look at how many kids you’ve got. Bunk beds are great for bigger families, as one bed takes up a good deal of space, and if you’ve got two kids who share a room, why not try to stack the kids and save on some bedroom space? A bunk bed is basically two single beds, stacked. Many mattress companies sell these. Just be sure to check to ensure the bed you’re thinking about buying is safe for your children.

Sleep stations are also very practical, as it’s optimal for storage and designed with the child in mind. Sleep stations come with built in shelving, cupboards, and shelves, which allows your child to store their belongings or even clothes with ease. These sleep stations are however quite large, so you’ll need to keep the dimensions of the structure in mind as you purchase it.

Storage beds are great too, as they also aid you and your child in properly storing their clothes and other belongings. These beds come with drawers beneath the bed that are optimal for keeping their clothes in. Not only do these beds save space, but they help keep your child’s room cleaner (which we all know is a challenge).

Another option is a hideaway bed, which is one single bed and another beneath it, which you pull out for guests to use. It’s great as it saves on space and is perfect when your children have friends over to stay the night. The only thing you really need to worry about is whether there is enough walking room once the second bed is taken out (as you wouldn’t want it to block the door).

There, now you’ve got the basics down of what types of beds are good for what you need. These beds all come in differing types of materials from wood to metal and in different designs your child will love. Now all you need to do is pick one.

Chosing a Single Bed

July 5, 2009 – 10:47 pm

While choosing a bed you may hear the terms single bed or twin bed and wonder what the difference is, truth is they are the same thing.  A bed that is build for a single person.  A single bed is often chosen when space is limited or price is a consideration.  It’s also nice for students or others that need to keep things light because they move around a lot and want to minimize the move.

Whatever your reason for wanting a single bed there are a few things you should probable know.  As in all beds the material of the mattress and box springs makes a difference both for comfort and longevity of the bed.  If the bed is for a child you may be less concerned about the quality and more concerned about price.  In contrast if it’s for you and you plan on using it for years as your main bed you may be more interested in a great night’s sleep.

When looking into new beds look for both style and functionality.  A nice headboard and footboard will add elegance to your bedroom and make your bed into more than just a place to sleep; it will turn it into a centerpiece of the room.    Not to mention there are so many choices to choose from that you will find something that fits your personality.

You can go to websites, such as www.bettersleep.org and learn more about what mattress is right for you.  You can even take a test that will guide you through questions such as; do you wake up in pain?  Have you slept better in the past in another bed than your own?  They use a term called EASE, which means evaluate your current mattress, arm yourself with knowledge, shop for the right select and ensure you get the most out of your mattress with quality care.  Buying a new twin mattress without understanding and studying what is best for you is not your best plan.

Study out the different types of mattresses, your body type and how well you sleep and wake rested in the morning.  You spend on average 1/3 of your life sleeping, so make sure you take the time to get the best possible sleep.

Along with your single bed consider adding a touch of class by having fitted bedroom wardrobes, you’ll enjoy it and it will make for a great talking piece with friends and family.
