The Most Important Part of a Single Bed – the Mattress

February 21, 2010 – 8:08 am

We are in bed much of our lives. That’s why it is so important to have a proper mattress that is comfortable and healthy for the back, neck and shoulders. At the time of purchase, feel free to try all the options available throughout the vendor, and invest as much as possible in a good product. Be assured that choosing a mattress for a single bed is not the same as for a double bed. Take a look at these tips. The most important difference is that when buying a mattress for a single bed, you have only to consider the opinion, tastes and preferences of one person. But there are more differences. Testing a mattress for a single bed means that you’ll do the testing laying in the middle.

When choosing, it is important to note the point elasticity of the mattress: the base must yield under the heavier parts of the body (shoulders and pelvis).

Get a firm mattress (soft or hard, but firm), soft enough to fit the curves of your spine. A good mattress is one that supports the entire spine when lying on your back.

Latex mattresses, more expensive and durable, contain millions of tiny holes that allow the body to breathe. They adapt to the movements used to sleep without losing the necessary firmness for a good rest. They are also hypoallergenic and resistant to both dust and dirt. They are the best choice for people who sweat a lot or who are ill and must spend long periods in bed. They are more durable than spring mattresses (latex lasts up to 15-18 years). Buy one of these if you are planning to stay single and consequentially sleep for many years in your single bed.

The spring mattresses provide different degrees of firmness. They provide adequate thermal insulation and its elasticity is good, because each spring is in a separate bag. These last between 5 and 7 years.

Remember that not every single bed has the same size as any single mattress. Check the measurements. Also remember that if you are buying your single bed and single mattress in a different store, you will not be testing the “real thing.” Single beds tend to be pretty firm – in contrary to double beds. However, if you already chose a single bed with a very flexible base, you probably will end up with a too soft combination.

However, as important as the mattress is you could say its as important or even more so to have a great pillow.  Something to consider is purchasing one of the best feather pillows on the market.

Novelty Single Beds

August 6, 2009 – 11:44 pm

There’s always a point in a child’s life where they need their own bed. It’s an exciting time for them, as they feel that they’re growing up and it’s something new that’s just for them. However with the wide array of beds out there, it can seem over whelming for the parent as they search out for the perfect bed. It is, though it may not seem this way, easier than you thin to choose a great bed style for your child. All you need is a little know-how about what’s what in the world of single beds.

There are two types of basic single beds, ones with built in storage and ones without. The ones without the built in storage are fine for families who don’t need the extra space to store clothing or anything. The ones without the storage are also sleeker and more appealing to parents who like a clean room. The ones with the added storage however are perfect for storage and although the drawers may seem quite bulky, it’s a great way to keep your kids organized.

If this is your child’s first bed, then a great way to get your child interested in the new change is by getting them a novelty bed. Novelty beds are beds that are shaped to look like fun things from cars and boats to animated characters and more. These are often very appealing to toddlers, and are a perfect bridge between cot or crib and their first real bed.

If you’ve two kids who are ready for their first beds, then look no further than a good old fashioned bunk bed. Kids find these as a fun as one of them sleeps higher up, and the other sleeps in what can be seen as a personal area, where it’s confined, and kept private almost. These are great space savers and keep the room from feeling over crowded with two beds in one small room. These bunks come in an assortment of styles, from the popular ladder beds, to the unique L-shaped beds that face in opposite directions. And all of these beds are built out of sturdy materials, from metals to woods.

Your child will be excited for their new bed, so be sure to take them with you when you buy one, so they can help with the process and pick one they’ll fall in love with and instantly appreciate. It’ll make the process easier on you and the transition easier for everyone.

Single Beds for Children

August 6, 2009 – 11:30 pm

Family is the most important thing to many of us, and one thing we always make sure of is how our family is taken care of. One group within a family that’s usually pampered more than any other is the youth. There comes a point in each and every child’s life where they outgrow their cribs and need a real place to stay. Now for some folks, this experience isn’t new, as they have other children who have paved the way, but consider this: if you have two of your children sharing a room, why not get them a bunk bed? They save space, they’re comfortable, and they’re safe.

Bunk beds come in a wide variety of styles. One of which is the L-shaped bunk bed. It fits perfectly in a corner of the room, and as one bed aligns with one wall, the other is against the other wall. These are great fun for the kids, as the unique design will surely spark their imagination. But, for a practical use, some L-shaped bunk beds come with a small dresser built in under the overhang of the raised bed, which gives your kids a place to store games, clothes, or whatever they want.

Ladder bunk beds are another excellent option, as the two single beds are stacked, usually with a ladder build onto the bed at the ends, or with a removable ladder that allows for quick and easy access to the top bunk. These beds are sturdy, spacious, and allow for even more confined space, as the beds only take up the floor space of what one single bed would have taken up.

One type of bunk that’s great for daytime use is a futon bunk. The bunk is situated as a normal single bed on top, and a futon on the bottom. The futon on the bottom is larger than the single above it, but converts into a couch, which is perfect for everyday use.

All of these bunk beds come in different colors and are made from a selection of materials from wood to metal and more. Each of these different bunk beds has its own specific purposes and are optimal for different families, depending on the needs of the family in question. Though, after you’ve made sure you’ve the room for whichever one you choose to buy, all you need to really worry about is which one of your kids gets to sleep on the top bunk.
